Free phone call fixed my problem! These guys are awesome. Called them to figure out the process for getting my harddrive fixed. Great Experience and Extemely Satisfied; Highly Recommended! I have never experienced data loss before, but it is a terrible situation. As I am sure is often the case, the data that is lost includes "priceless" files such as pictures/movies of family members who have since passed away or once-in-a-lifetime-vacations. Both my laptop and my external HD failed recently. I had a mild freakout session as I realized a good part of 9 years of my life were on those two devices. She told me that highly experienced technicians would work on my drives and be able to recover most, if not all, of what I was looking for in just a day or two. Super RAID data recovery service, great value. I have a 2TB four-drive stripped RAID that was knocked off a table. I know enough about hard drives to know when a drive is clicking, it is a major issue. All four drives were clicking and I was in a panic. I called Hard Drive 911 for data recovery on Friday afternoon and received all my data back today, SUNDAY, and the cost was less than competitors were quoting for one week turn-around. After speaking with other companies, I went with Hard Drive 911 because they calmed me down and informed me of the process and my options without pressure. Great Customer Support I had a failed striped RAID with a ton of video-work on it and this company recovered it all with some of the best customer service I've experienced in a while. I signed up with yelp just to write this review, that's how happy I am with the service I got. I had two hard drives crash and needed the data recovered. I contacted a few of the places listed here, including HardDrive911 because they're local...

Each of the places I contacted gave me a similar spiel, repairs could cost anything from $300-$2000 depending on the actual failure, and that it would be $100 against the repair to get a formal estimate.

HardDrive911 distinguished themselves by being prompt and courteous even before I decided to use them for an estimate (at least one other vendor took a very lax attitude to returning my calls). The team at HardDrive911 were very communicative at every step of the way, before, during and after the repairs.

The service was great; they sent a courier to collect and return pick the drives from my home/office, saving me the effort of mailing them etc. Estimate was detailed and included a list of all recoverable files.

Here's how they really impressed me and earned a 5-star review. They were outstanding in how they worked with me when a couple of issues came up with the repairs. They went above and beyond to resolve the issues to my satisfaction, demonstrating a generosity and dedication to customer service that few companies have.

Job saved! I am an architect in Beverly Hills, and I have several projects in the works at any one time.

I would not have a job if not for Hard Drive 911! Last Saturday I was working on a project due to begin Monday. Someone knocked my laptop off the table at Starbucks. I picked the laptop up, put the battery back in, and powered it up.....click....click....click....

I just moved to Los Angeles about two years ago not knowing anyone, and for a small town girl, that's pretty big. I literally had four hours to turn in a twenty page paper for grad school and I dropped my computer a foot from the carpeted floor. First thing to say -- Thank you. You saved my life!

I received my data back last night earlier than promised and the price was exactly what I was quoted. A real value in my opinion since I needed the work done quickly, but am obviously on a budget (who isn't these days.)

I spoke to Tom last Friday, when my 1TB Western Digital MyBook started clicking. I am an accountant. This drive had all my client data from the past three years. You can not imagine.....I was freaking out.

I did a quick Google search for data recovery in San Francisco and found a few listings. I called Hard Drive 911 first, then a few competitors. After the initial phone call, I received an email from Tom covering what we discussed on the phone, the process, turn-around time, cost, etc. I called a few other places, both local and some out of state. I chose them because they were local, responded to my specific needs, and were quite professional, and they do not bill three times the cost to expedite work, unlike some of their competition.

I dropped off the drive Friday afternoon, and I was contacted around noon on Saturday with information about my drive. While we were on the phone, Tom emailed me a file listing of the drive. He gave me the cost and I agreed. $450 for expedited service, which promised a 1-2 business day turn around. After what I read about these drives...and clicking drives in general, it sounded very reasonable, so I gave the go-ahead and held my breath. I had read horror stories about these things not be recoverable at all.

I received a call yesterday afternoon, saying the work was done, 100% recovered! I was so relieved, you have no idea. I picked up the data on a new drive last night and immediately made a backup then tested the data. Everything works great. All the files are there.

If the data were not recovered or the cost had been much higher, this would have been serious trouble for me.

I give five stars for value, professionalism, timeliness, and most importantly, doing the work promised with no BS, faster than promised.

Thank you again for saving my business. I hope I never need recovery again, but if I do, there is only one call I am making.

I had the auspicious occasion of hard drive not mounting, after initiating the Apple Time Machine application. after several hard disk management software downloads that did not solve the problem, i called Hard Drive 911 Data Recovery. Tom is da bomb. You call, it's always (for me) an emergency. They answer. they get your computer. They diagnose, they estimate, they never charge more than they estimate (at least, not the two times I've used them). then, if they said they could, they retrieve your data. and they help you with follow up. It's magic! That's sort of how I feel about computers and data and the internet. I honestly really don't understand how it all works and I really don't care. But I need it to work and get really impatient and helpless feeling when it doesn't. So, recently when my computer (I guess my hard drive) started making these horror movie sounding noises I was a little concerned, but ignored it. Big mistake!

Then, I went to turn on my computer later that day and it was having a full blown seizure. Making sounds that literally scared my dog. Then, it had a stroke and I thought it was dead (my computer, not my dog). OMG! What the hell am I suppose to do? If I was at work I would dial ext. 28000 and have the all knowing magic IT guy come and work his magic .

So my external hard drive AND my back up external hard drive (both over 6 years old) gave up at the same time this weekend. After digging around on the internet, talking to work's IT team and researching on yelp I gave a couple of external hard drive retrieval companies a call.

I choose to go with Hard Drive 911 Data Recovery as they were the most professional, answered all my questions - and they mentioned the clean room. Yes they knew it was important when opening these things up to be using a clean room. I filled out their form, and called for a pickup. While I had John on the phone I asked him about how I should modify my backup system and he spent time with me going through what he would suggest doing (two external hard drives, differing brands, backing up once a week - the sensible stuff). I asked if I should include the power supply to the drive I was having fixed for the pick up. John said yes as they have a thorough step wise testing procedure, and this was the first thing they looked at. Which made me realize that having checked different cables, PCs etc. I had not tested the external hard drive with another power supply. And that was it. I called John back and told him they now appeared to work. He continued to give me sound advice (back them up immediately, do not turn them off etc.). I learnt my lesson. Hopefully there will not be an next time. But if there is - I will definitely use them again .

So in summary - no I did not have to use them - but

• very good customer service
• straight fwd pricing - with an upfront diagnostic fee that is netted off against any future work required
• they manage expectations well - ie. we cannot tell you exactly how much this will cost, until we have run the diagnostics - but generally it is in this range
• honest and patient

Hard drive emergencies are horribly painful. But they happen. And when they do, you just hope that the tech folks in charge are competent, professional, knowledgeable, AND honest. Thank god this was the case with the people at Hard Drive 911 (I worked with their San Francisco team, led by Tom P.). Tom pretty much saved my life:

I had a large video project stored on a Seagate 1.5TB hard drive. The drive failed. After a panic attack and some yelling, I started making calls to local (and more distant) data recovery people. Some companies located in the South Bay. Others in L.A.. I quickly learned that data recovery can be ridiculously expensive. Most companies out there know that it's an emergency--and they make you pay for it. I was getting quotes STARTING in the $5k range (for a hard drive that cost me $100, no less). And it's even more expensive the quicker you need your data recovered...

Anyway, I ended up going with Hard Drive 911 Data Recovery because of their approach to customer service--and their simple, conscientious policy. They didn't make any changes in pricing or timing because I was a small-time, individual client. And they didn't charge me a premium or take advantage of my desperation. I dropped my hard drive off with Tom, got the drive diagnosed--and then fixed--within a week. And was back in business with my video files without having to shell out an exorbitant amount of capital.

Although I cringe at the thought of ever having another situation where I need data recovery--if it happens...I'll certainly know who to call for help. I'd recommend the people at Hard Drive 911 to anyone who needs solid, professional data recovery.

I recently moved to the Bay Area, and as I was unpacking and setting up my things, I went to turn on my external hard drive and... whirrrrrr... whirrrrr.... it wouldn't mount. I had photos, music, and some really important files I use for work on that drive, and -- stupidly -- no backup.

After a couple hours of freaking out, and a few more hours of attempting the few feeble diagnostics I knew of (with no luck), I turned to Yelp and found the great reviews for Hard Drive 911. My boyfriend dealt with the initial call/handing over the drive so I can't speak to that experience directly, but it seemed like it was a very smooth, convenient process. They picked up the drive from his apartment and had a diagnosis for me the next day. Luckily, they were able to recover everything! I ordered a brand new drive and had it shipped to them, which they put my data on and then shipped back to me. I got regular updates from Tom on the status of the drive, and all in all, the process took about a week and a half from handing over the drive to receiving the new one at my door (and this was with me opting for the slowest service time -- they will rush service for an extra fee).

While it cost slightly more than I had been originally hoping for (my move was expensive enough!!), it was still an extremely reasonable price and waaaaay cheaper than many other places probably would have charged me.

I learned my data-loss lesson and I hope I never have to use Hard Drive 911 again, but if my multiple backups ever fail simultaneously, I know who to call.
