Storage Area Networks tend to be placed in less conspicuous locations without direct interaction, leading to more time before a hard drive failure is detected.
2. SANs commonly use a proprietary operating system and hard drive format. Although the hard drives found in a SAN are the same as any other high-performance hard drive, the OS is typically a Linux variant, and often uses vendor-proprietary hard drive format.
3. SANs typical are not backed up. Storage Area Networks by nature often have large volumes of storage making backup more complicated and less economical.
